Terms of use

Short version: NameSheet is a research tool. It surfaces evidence about a name — domain status, trademark records, word meaning, public web use — so you can decide for yourself. It doesn’t decide for you, and using it doesn’t create any relationship beyond “you’re using the software as it stands.”

What this is

NameSheet is a first-pass research aid for choosing a name. It screens candidates against public sources and presents what it found. See /method for the full stance on why it reports evidence rather than scores or verdicts.

Not legal, trademark, or business advice

Nothing NameSheet shows — domain availability, trademark search results, word meaning, or web-use findings — is legal clearance, and none of it is a substitute for a trademark attorney or a proper clearance search before you commit to a name. Public records lag reality: a domain can sell or a mark can be filed between the moment we check and the moment you act. Confirm anything that matters directly with the registrar, the USPTO, or counsel before relying on it.

Purchase links

Where NameSheet shows a domain as available, it links you to a registrar to buy it. We check pricing across several registrars and the price we feature is the lowest we found among them — ranking is a pure function of price and nothing else. We are not a registrar, we don’t process the purchase, and the transaction itself happens entirely between you and whichever registrar you choose.

We may participate in registrar affiliate programmes, which would mean we earn a commission if you buy through one of these links, at no added cost to you. That never changes which registrar is featured or the order others are listed in: the ranking policy above holds regardless of whether a given link is currently tagged.

Accounts and shared content

If you sign in, you’re responsible for what you add under your account — candidates, comments, votes. If you create a share link for a shortlist or a comparison, that page becomes publicly viewable and indexable by anyone with the link; don’t put anything confidential in a name or note you intend to share. See /privacy for exactly what’s stored and who else processes it.

No warranty

NameSheet is provided as-is. We work to keep evidence accurate and current, but domain, trademark, and web-use data come from third parties and public records that can be wrong, incomplete, or out of date. We don’t guarantee availability, accuracy, or fitness for any particular purpose, and we aren’t liable for decisions made on the basis of what this tool shows.

Changes

We may update these terms as the product changes. Material changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date; continuing to use NameSheet after a change means you accept the current version.
